Political education trip to the capital of Germany
Cornelia Möhring, a member of the German parliament, invited us to visit Berlin and the parliament from Wednesday the 19th of October to Friday the 21st of October. On Wednesday morning around 50 people from all over Schleswig-Holstein started their journey to the capital amongst them were eight people from our organization.
Shortly after we arrived in Berlin, we visited the consulate of Schleswig-Holstein where we listened to a very interesting presentation about the consulates work. After our very tasty lunch break, we visited the Karl Liebknecht House where a political discussion took place. Some of our new-Flensburger shared their experiences and talked about their current situation in Germany.
On Thursday our program started with some sightseeing, visiting the nordic countries consulates as well as seeing an exhibition about the history of parliamentary democracy at the German Dome, in the afternoon we made our way to the german parliament. In the plenary session, that we were invited to participate in for an hour, we listened to the politicians talking about the participation of the German army in Syria – it is hefty to see how the opinions of different parties and politicians differ in this topic. After we spend a day with many new experiences and a lot of political input, some of us went out to discover the city at night time.
On Friday the day began with a visit at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. An interesting thing is, that the foundation gives out scholarships to foreign students. Before heading on the train to go back home, we visited the "Hackesche Höfe".
In the end we can just say, that we had an amazing time together. For most of us, it has been the first time in Berlin. We learned a lot about politics, saw the beautiful city of Berlin, but most of all we laughed a lot and we went home with great memories. We want to say thank you for the great days in Berlin – we liked it a lot.
